The Future...

This last weekend the owner of the Jazz, Larry H. Miller, passed away. I am a big Jazz fan and watched the game the day after where they honored him. There were many video clips of his life shown before and during the game. A quote that was very important to him stuck with me and I would like to see what you all think of it. He was a big supporter of Education and did many things to help SLC Community College and gave many educational scholarships. In one of the banquets for education that he spoke at he read this quote as one of his firm beliefs: "Children are the messengers we send to a time we'll never see; what messages are we sending with them?" I had never heard this before and I thought it was quite profound. I am wondering what you all think of this quote and how it pertains to education today? Whether it be elementary or the higher education we're obtaining now. How should education work so that we can achieve greater things in the future?

  1. Larry H. Miller is absolutely right about children being messengers for the future. As far as education in our country goes, I really think it gives everyone the chance to learn and become something if they really want to. If communities keep the quality of education as main priority for our future, our children will always have a great opportunity to obtain higher education. Public spending and support is crucial for the success of our children.

  2. Larry H. Miller knew the importance of education and children and showed this by his numerous donations he put toward education. At some point the children of today will be leaders of our country. What kind of leaders will they be if they are not well educated. I feel as a community, a state, and a country education for our youth should be our top priority. It is to bad their are not more people who think like Larry H. Miller.

  3. What a sad day it was when He died! I think that he really understood what it meant to be charitable and to leave something behind. I agree with his quote about training the youth so that they can be the future of our nation. What a great responsibility we have to teach and to be examples so that the future is better than the present!
